Wearing Recycled and Talking Trash

Playback Clothing

Saving the environment just got a lot easier!

Based in Brooklyn, Playback is an eco-friendly clothing company in it’s truest form. Capitalizing on the importance of reusing and recycling, this vision is to make better clothing in a better way, to make you look and feel better, and to make the Earth a cleaner place. The clothier goes so far as to produce unisex tees and sweatshirts from recycled PET (polyethylene terephthalate) bottles – in other words, your Evian, Dasani, Coke and other plastic bottles. They’ve currently saved over 682,000 bottles from sitting in landfills, saved 205,000+ gallons of water by not growing new cotton and pardoned 71,000,000 (yes, million) pounds of textile scraps by upcycling!

Their five step process optimizes on discarded plastics and cotton textiles that would otherwise sit in a landfill and hurt our planet.

Available in Beer Bottle Brown, Soda Bottle Green, and Water Cooler Blue, their shirts are 65% recycled polyester from PET bottles, and 35% recycled cotton, and their yarn is ring spun to ensure you won’t be able to tell you’re wearing that water bottle you tossed at the gym last week. Each shirt uses about 8.5 plastic bottles to make, and considering Americans toss 2 million plastic bottles every ten minutes, it’s a great way to help Mother Earth.

And the best part is that, priced from $22-$44, they’re more than affordable. The Dave Matthews Band also used Playback to create a limited edition of earth friendly band merchandise! Another reason to go green and love DMB!

Military Jackets

A military style jacket can look fantastic when worn the right way. Check out Jessica Simpson and Taylor Swift, looking like a vintage spy in this gorgeous cream jacket. You don’t want to go too Michael Jackson with your choice…too many gold button and epaulettes and you’ll end up looking like you’re ready to be enlisted. Also, rule of thumb, stay away from patches or fringe! Pair a structured admiral jacket with skinny jeans, a pair of cute heals and minimalist makeup.

All you need is a bit of attitude and a great jacket, try these options for this military-maven look:

Braids are Back

Blake Lively Braid Emmys 09

Who knew a simple, textured braid would be the hit of the red carpet?? Braids warp me back to the 2nd grade where girls would form braid-trains and French braid each others hair during recess. I never quite figured out how to create the perfect French braid…but alas, I digress.

Braids are back. Big Time. Blake Lively looked mermaid-chic on the red carpet of this years Emmy Awards. This messy, yet polished look drew attention to her beautiful face and gave her a retro, yet up to date look.

Frederic Fekkai stylist Renato Campora is sharing all the details of the look:

-Apply mousse to wet hair (Campora used Fekkai Coiff Strong Hold Volume Mousse)
Blow-dry hair smooth with a flat paddle brush

-Apply styling gel to hold in the sleekness (Campora used Fekkai Coiff Extra Control Styling Gel)

-Tease hair at the crown and pull into a high ponytail

-Clip in a few hair extensions to the ponytail for dramatic length, and use one to wrap around and cover the elastic

-Braid the ponytail and sexure the ends with a clear elastic

-Smooth over the top with a finishing cream (Campora used Fekai Coiff Magnifique Ultra-Light Finishing Crème)

Stella McCartney Fruits of the Week

Laundry sucks. Wear. Wash. Dry. Fold. Put away. Wear. Wash. Dry…you get the point. We are always wearing and washing our clothes…and most importantly, we are always delicately handling our unmentionables in fear of ruining them in the wash. Wouldn’t it be great if we had a dedicated pair of under roos that coordinated with our days of the week?

Tahdah! Stella McCartney has created an adorable set of knickers to wear each day of the week! Fruits of the Week Knicker Set and Knickers of the week Set are boxed sets of seven cotton embroidered panties that let you leave the washing to once a week.

This boxed set of daily panties are a perfect gift for the girl in your life or just as a clever way of telling someone they need to get their daily dose of fruit.

Smoking Gun

Gone smoke

Have you ever woken up the morning after a late night of partying and smelled the smoke, alcohol and stale perfume wafting off of your body? Or even the night after camping under the stars…the sharp smell of camp fire embedded into your clothes and hair? What about going to dinner at a fabulous exotic restaurant and coming home smelling like you were sautéing garlic in a closed kitchen for 12 hours? Yes, we’ve all be there…smelling hopelessly unpleasant and wishing we could hose ourselves down.

The secret to smelling fresh and non-stinky after a long night is Gone Smoke. Created especially for hair and clothing, the dry aerosol mist is safe for all fabrics, human skin, and hair. But most importantly, it sucks out the stench of cigarettes, cigars, pets, and food on contact.

Carry this discreet, pen-sized odor zapper in your purse or glove compartment and never worry about offending your olfactory system again.

Rosy Cheeks

Rosy Cheeks

Sporting a Rosy Glow comes from sprinting on a treadmill or choosing the perfect blush to adorn your cheeks. I choose the latter of the two because you can’t run everywhere or constantly hang out at the gym. Rosy Cheeks are one of the Top 10 Fall Makeup Trends this season, according to Allure, and I couldn’t agree more! Nothing looks more fresh or engaging than the perfectly pink cheeks.

TRICK OF THE TRADE: Makeup artist Charlotte Tilbury likes to blend pink blush high on the cheekbones, as opposed to on the apples. “It makes the flush more sophisticated,” she said.

Best Blushes for the Rosy Cheeks Effect:

NARS Blush – Each Nars Blush ($25) is loaded with pigment, never streaks, and is utterly flattering. I like Orgasm for fair skin, Amour (shown) for medium, and Taos for dark. Taj Mahal is also a fan favorite!

MAC Powder Blush – MAC’s Raizin ($18.50) is a Golden reddish-brown (Matte) blush that has a strong following on beauty/makeup blogs. MAC’s Lover rush is also very popular (muted burgundy color).

L’Oreal True Match Blush ($9.99) is a great drugstore blush, flawlessly complements your skin’s tone and texture, and is easy to find…look for it in any drug store in america. Just match your skin tone to the product and you’ve found yourself a winning blush!

Anastasia Brow Ex-Press

Eyes are the windows to the soul…and Eyebrows are the frames to those windows. With the right eye make up and the perfect eyebrow shaping techniques you can create an eye lifting effect without plastic surgery. Having logged many hours in salons getting waxed and plucked (and yelled at by my eyebrow stylist…Yes, I have an eyebrow stylist), I know the pain that women and men endure to create the perfect brow.

Anastasia , has long been known as the Eyebrow Queen, the Brow Guru, or (my favorite) the Star Plucker, one thing is certain—brow guru Anastasia Soare has single handedly made perfect brows a must-have accessory. She has created a wonderful line of eyebrow tools available at Sephora and the one I love the most is the Brow Ex-Press Kit.

The kit contains all brow essentials: four perfect brow stencils created by Anastasia to suit various brow shapes and styles (stencil results vary from face to face due to different bone structure and hair growth, no two brows will ever look the same); two brow powders in your range (blonde or brunette) to custom blend the most natural brow color; an angled brush for clean application; cream highlighter for application along the brow bone to lift and accentuate the eyes; and wax cream created to hold a perfect shape all day.

NARS Eyeliner Stylo

You don’t have to be a French actress to rock gorgeous cat-eye makeup—which celebs like Rihanna, Angelina Jolie and Zoe Saldana know very well. The key to getting this sultry, edgy look? A steady hand and a thin, heavily pigmented liquid liner, like the new NARS Eyeliner Stylo. Available in three shades, the marker-style tip gives us grade school flashbacks, but the silky, flawless results are anything but juvenile. Meow, indeed.

Caruso Hair

I personally hate using curling irons. I always end up burning the top of my ear, taking forever to address and curl each section of hair on my head, and damaging my locks (I know this because my hair smokes every time I use a curling iron). This is why when I am looking to create a soft, wavy hair style, I use curlers. Yeah yeah…I know…they make you look like a 1950’s housewife but the are SO effective. I just let them heat up while I’m drying my hair, pop them in, apply my makeup and boom, I’m done!

This is why I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect set of curlers and what I’ve found is the Caruso 30 Molecular Ion Steam Hairsetter! This scientifically named curling set is the best of Folica (my go-to beauty product site) and has 143 raving reviews of this dream hair machine on the review page.

According to the product pitch, this new anti-static, anti-frizz Caruso Professional Ion Steam Hairsetter uses negative ions to produce up to three times the amount of steam produced by ordinary hairsetters. The quick heat-up sponge curlers/rollers are infused with the maximum number of ions to create strong, long-lasting and luxurious curls. This helps condition, soften and make hair shinier while adding volume and reducing frizz. Loves it!
