Little Teasers

In Beauty on November 30, 2010 at 3:10 pm

The dancing. The costumes. The beautiful actresses. The holiday movie Burlesque is bringing out the little girl with big dreams in all of us. And you can achieve their look with the help of a few of your favorite beauty brands.

Smashbox, the official beauty brand on the movie set, created a simple and affordable cosmetic kit to create the sultry look. The four-piece gift set includes a black liquid liner, eyeshadow quad, pearl loose shimmer powder, and a lip gloss duo.

OPI developed a shimmer nail color line inspired by the movie, and it’s offered in full- sized polish and a mini-size quad gift set. The shimmer set makes a fabulous stocking stuffer.

Check ’em out for the holiday season and dazzle everyone you know!

Cut Out Cutie

In Fashion on November 25, 2010 at 10:18 am

Red carpet dresses are looking more like “Dancing with the Stars” costumes as of late. Cutout dresses are huge right now, covering the bodies of models, actresses, and reality stars. Well, barely covering the stars.

You can be part of the celebrity trend, without exposing too much at the annual office holiday get-together. A peek of your shoulder, décolletage, or upper back can be even sexier than showing off your chest or stomach because it leaves something to the imagination.

Get a cocktail or evening dress just in time for holiday parties.

Bebe One Shoulder Croco Dress $89

Eight Sixty Brocade Cutout Dress $129

Herve Leger One-Shoulder Bandage Dress $1,690.00

Fashion Ace with Lace

In Fashion on November 24, 2010 at 3:13 pm

Lingerie-inspired clothing and just straight forward lingerie looks have transformed into Fall fashion looks.

To wear this style, try a low rounded neckline and let your lace bra barely peek above the shirt’s neckline. If you’re daring, wear a lace see-through turtleneck with a solid bra for an evening out. For a sweetheart look, wear a lingerie-inspired babydoll dress with a jacket and ankle boots.

Statement pieces are exactly what you need this season. Start dialing up the drama with showstopping statement necklaces, bedazzled rings, broaches, and bold bracelets! Tis the season to accessorize and what better time to adorn yourself with gorgeous baubles than the festive season. Just remember don’t overdo it when it comes to sparkles. Use statement pieces one at a time…you don’t want your outfit to be making a statement that you are ‘fashion clueless’.

Bronzed Goddess

In Shoes on November 22, 2010 at 4:04 pm

Rock your holiday parties with some seriously hot heels! These Sergio Rossi Bronze Goddess Twist Strap Sandals are a gorgeous throwback to the glamorous 70’s era with its bronze leather stitched straps that snake their way around this royal blue suede stiletto and lead into ankle straps. The 5″ heel means business but they are still comfortable because you have a 1 1/2″ platform that acts as a sole protector and leaves your pedicured feet happy.

Pair with crop trousers or a red (holiday) dress and suede dinner jacket. Either way, people will be complimenting your great sense of holiday fashion all night long! What a perfect holiday gift!

Over the Knee Socks

In Accessories, Fashion on November 18, 2010 at 2:44 pm

When was the last time you paid attention to socks? Were you reading Dr. Seuss (Fox In Socks)? Needless to say, it’s possible—downright probable—that you have neglected this lovely sub-section of your hosiery collection for far too long. I too have been part of this guilty and negligent crowd. My socks have literally been the last things on my mind!

A comeback from seasons past, one winter trend that is back in full effect is the knee-high socks. They come in lots of styles—stripped, wool, solid, cashmere—and were particularly fun when shown with knee high boots or heels. The socks are down right affordable and can instantly jazz up your outfit ; their prices range from $5 for a pair of Forever21 ones to $195 for cashmere socks, certainly less than the equally desired (depending on your taste).

Here are some of my faves:

Forever21 Cable Over the Knee Socks $4.80

American Apparel Ribbed Modal Over the Knee Socks $14.00

Urban Outfitters Angora Lurex Over the Knee Sock $18.00

Kiki de Montparnasse Cashmere Socks $195.00

Nouveau Nude

In Beauty on November 17, 2010 at 1:40 pm

Nude makes eyes pop (the color, of course.) Nude Eyeliner eyes look brighter, wider, and more awake with a cream colored, soft eye pencil (without the harsh look of white eyeliner…the old eye brightener stand by). Use on the lower inner rim of eye to give tired eyes the appearance of an instant pick-me-up.

Mineral Fusion Eye Pencil in Touch is free of fragrance, dyes, and synthetic preservatives. You’ll need an eye pencil sharpener to keep it, along with your eyes, from looking dull.

Pixi Eye Bright Liner No. 1 Nude ($16) It’s soft and waterproof, both necessary since it’s going on the inner rim of the eye. The eyeliner is also paraben-free, mineral-oil free, and has a convenient, twist-up applicator.

Both are safe for sensitive eyes.

Buy It: Mineral Fusion (available at Whole Foods)
Cost: $12.75

Buy It: Pixi (Pixi Online & Target)
Cost: $16.00

For an eyeliner that is a little more high end, Try Dolce & Gabbana’s Crayon Intense Eyeliner in #9 Nude ($29.00)

Suede Platform Pumps

In Shoes on November 15, 2010 at 3:24 pm

Suede Platform Pumps are the way to go when dressing to impress this winter! Platforms are extremely comfortable to wear because they have more sole support and they also make your legs look a mile long! This season, suede pumps are popping up in every color of the rainbow- just in time to make your holiday outfit dazzle!

Pair with black tights and a mini or leggings and your favorite boyfriend or leather jacket! The platform pump goes well with every outfit and they won’t go out of style! Think of suede as the new neutral.

Here are some of my favorite Suede Platform Pumps:

Steve Madden Kattrina Pump $99.95

Miu Miu Suede Platform Pumps $585.00

J Crew Coddington Suede Platform Pumps $228.00

Bomber Nation

In Fashion on November 12, 2010 at 10:25 am

You’ll look forward to chilly Fall days when you have the hot jacket of the season in your coat closet. Bombers and shearling are in, and they’re available at every price range. The Bomber Shearling Jacket is a huge hit this Fall/Winter 2010 (as seen on Halle Berry and in the Philip Lim Show).

Look stylish but tough in your Alice + Olivia cropped bomber with skinny jeans and boots.

If you’re not ready to make the plunge for Juicy, trendy chain Love Culture’s version of the aviator sells for less than $60. It’s lined with shearling and has a waist belt to show off your curves.

Or head over to your nearest Target to get the Xhileration Faux Shearling Bomber. It’s available in camel or dark brown.

Soft. Warm. Animal Friendly. What’s not to love about faux fur vests?

There’s no need to bust your budget, as faux fur can be very economical. You’ll look like an A-list celeb in a belted faux fur vest from Forever 21. Pair with tall boots and a mini or leggings. No one will know you spent less than $40!

Or invest a little more in a piece from Aqua (available at Bloomingdale’s.) You’ll be wearing this quality piece for many winters to come.

Buy It: Forever21
Cost: $37.80

Buy It: Bloomingdale’s
Cost: $148.00
