Luminous Skin

In Beauty on January 27, 2011 at 10:39 am

Beauty junkies, dermatologists, and cosmetic chemists all rave about Le Métier de Beauté ‘Peau Vierge Anti Aging Complex’ Tinted Treatment SPF 20 treatment foundation, which blends into any skin tone for a flawless finish. The best part is what you can’t see: a pharmaceutical-grade delivery system that transports retinol deep into the skin. This luxurious tinted treatment fluid stimulates collagen production, increases blood flow, lessens dark circles, smoothes fine lines, blurs blemishes and tightens pores within a week of once-daily use.

The anti-aging powerhouse retinol, known for its ability to smooth and plump wrinkles from deep below the skin’s surface, stimulates collagen cell rejuvenation and bringing elasticity back to skin. Retinol is delivered through a patented and proprietary delivery technology called Syntoc Actif, which encapsulates the retinol and allows it to safely and effectively penetrate the skin. Syntoc Actif provides 20 times more retinoic acid than traditional over-the-counter products and is absorbed into the deeper skin layers, making it the most effective cosmetic retinoid treatment on the market.

Banging Bangs

In Beauty on January 24, 2011 at 4:20 pm

Are bangs back this spring? It sure looks like it according to the red carpet hair styles we saw at the Golden Globes this year. From Sandra Bullock to Lea Michelle and Natalie Portman to Olivia Wilde — they all sported blunt and side-swept bangs along with their stunning gowns. This season may be the perfect time for a hair change-up and time for you to sport some bangs.

Here are the best bang styles for your face shape:

Round Faces:
Celebs such as Cameron, Carmen, Christina, Kirsten and Kate are just a few famous femmes with round faces. If you have a round face, you’ll first want to start off with a haircut that flatters your face shape and then move onto the “fringe benefits” later.

What you’re aiming for is long, side-swept bangs or wispy fringes. Both help take attention away from the sides of your face, creating an arch which will help elongate your face. Stay away from super-choppy bangs or short layers that add volume to the sides.

Square Faces:
This rare face shape belongs to some seriously sexy A-list stunners such as Katie Holmes, Kate Walsh, Jessica Simpson, Sandra Bullock, Paris Hilton, Mandy Moore, Demi Moore, Audrey Hepburn and Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. Things to do when you have a square face is that layered bangs that fall to or below your eyebrows are very flattering, especially if they are swept off to the side. Fringey and wispy bangs look great, too, since they will soften the edges of your face shape.

Oval Faces:
If you have an oval face shape, you are lucky, since you can play around with many different bang options. For example, if your hair is thick, try a blunt-cut short bang. If your hair is thin, then a billowy fringe or long wisps will look great too!

The goal is to add some width and fullness at the sides so that your face looks more symmetrical. Avoid creating too much volume at the top, or you will only make your face look too drawn-out and oblong.

Heart Shaped Face:
Again, side-swept or off-center long bangs are great for drawing attention to your eyes and cheekbones and away from your sharp chin. Also, short wispy bangs and fringe will work well on the different types of hair thickness.

Steer clear of blunt bangs if your face is very wide by the eyes and then very narrow down below. This will only make your face look longer.

Angelina Jolie has proved she’s human just like the rest of us — she reapplies her lip gloss. 😉 TV viewers watching Sunday’s Golden Globe Awards caught Angelina Jolie re-applying as she watched the show with love Brad Pitt, The Tourist costar Johnny Depp and other A-listers.

My first thought when I saw this unusual celebrity sighting was, “What lip gloss does she use?” Jolie’s makeup artist Toni G. told that she makes her lips pop with Chantecaille Brilliant Gloss in Love — a brand she’s frequently used on-set and on countless red carpets. Hello! Sign us up. If this stuff is good enough for Jolie’s pout, its good enough for ours.

How to Create Smoldering Eyes

In Beauty on January 17, 2011 at 3:24 pm

Smokey eyes have been a big style for quite awhile and there’s no sign this particular trend is dying. Here we show you step-by-step instructions on how to get the perfect smokey eye (like Natalie Portman’s).

Time Required: 10 minutes

Here’s How:

1. Prep the lid. The key to keeping eyeshadow from melting into your eyelid crease as the day goes on is to kept eyelids oil-free. To do this start with an eyeshadow base (also called “primer”). Simply swipe the primer across the eye and let it dry before you continue to the next step.
— Some great primers for a smokey eye include MAC’s ‘paint’ and Urban Decay’s ‘Primer Potion’.

2. Apply eyeliner. If you’re going for a typical black, brown or gray smoky eye, apply liner in one of those colors above the upper lash line, drawing line thicker in the middle of eye. If you’re opting for a jewel-toned eye (violet makes a gorgeous smokey eye), line eyes with a purple, blue or deep green liner.

3. Blend in color on bottom lashes. For color on the bottom (a key smokey eye look) you’ll want to use a eyeliner pencil because they’re easiest to smudge. Once the line is drawn, run your finger over it to smudge the line. You can also apply a bit of shadow to get full smudge effect.

4. Apply light base color. Again, the key to a smokey eye is pairing a lighter base with the darker hue. I prefer a nice cream shade for my base. Sweep a light, shimmery shadow over the lids to your browbone. I love Stila‘s whipped eye shadows. The moist “mousse” consistency seems to stay on forever. My favorite colors are taupe and pearl.

5. Blend in darker color, but keep dark color below the crease. Now that you have the base and eyeliner on, it’s time to get the smokey effect. You need a darker eyeshadow shade. Using an eyeshadow brush blend in color starting at your lash line, blending up. Make sure to blend color into the lash line so the eye liner disappears. Stop deep color at crease. The key here is to blend, blend, blend.

6. Double check your work to make sure eyes match and blend color with a Q-tip if need be.

7. Finish with several coats of mascara. You’ll want to apply a few coats of mascara so lashes are thick and dark. If you don’t have naturally long, curled lashes, curl them with a lash curler first. See my list of best mascaras if you don’t have one you love.
