Hydrate Thirsty Summer Skin

In Beauty on September 7, 2011 at 10:03 pm

Adara pure organic coconut oil works as a gentle makeup remover, a moisturizer, and a hair conditioning treatment (and it’s eco-friendly and fair trade). But it also helps heal and prevent acne. Apply to clean dry skin before bed (a little goes a long way) and wake up to skin that is substantially less inflamed, more matte, soft and healed. Coconut oil is a natural anti-bacterial which heals inflammations & removes redness. Also, the natural lauric acid gently removes dead skin cells helping healthy skin to glow! If you have naturally oily skin this coconut oil (used at night) will actually help your skin be less shiny the next day! It’s a miracle nature product.

Must Have Mani

In Beauty on August 3, 2011 at 8:00 am

A little manicure goes a long way! Right now, I am ready to stash summer’s brighter hues for fresh fall shades. My fashion instinct draws me to deeper tones, like vampy reds, midnight greens and feminine greys, along with pretty neutrals and cool metallics, though I usually wait for the holidays to paint on anything too sparkly. To get more specific, I selected ten of my top polish picks, including the stunning shade that was used in Derek Lam’s fall show. Peruse the entire fab assortment, decide on a fave—it’s tough, I know!—then head to the nail salon ASAP to get a mah-jor mani!

Firm It Up

In Beauty on July 11, 2011 at 10:19 am

Trying to look better in a bikini this summer? I have recently started experimenting Mama Mio Goodbye Stretch Marks not because I need to reduce the appearance of stretch marks, but because I heard it was fantastic in firming up the skin. After showering, you apply this serum with algae (which temporarily tightens skin) and collagen-building peptides (which help fade stretch marks) and voila, firmer, tighter skin. The smell is pleasant and the cream absorbs quickly but the only downside is that it is expensive and you would need a few tubes to get more results. Sometimes a firm tush is worth a pretty penny.

Smell of Summer – Coconut Fragrances

In Beauty on June 21, 2011 at 3:06 pm

Nothing smells more like summer than the scent of warm coconut. This scent sends me back to my childhood, on the beach and in the sun, slathered in delicious smelling suntan lotion. Whenever I walk past a department store perfume section, I sniff every bottle until I find a coconut scent and then douse myself in it.

Here are the best coconut scents I’ve found (for summer, of course):

1. Nars Monoi Body Glow II $59.00

2. Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess $55

3. Bath & Body Works Shower Gels in Coconut $10.50

4. Philosophy Aloha Girl $25

5. Laura Mercier Almond Coconut $50

8 Beauty Secrets of the Stars

In Beauty on June 14, 2011 at 10:31 am

1. White eyeliner

It’s a popular trick with supermodels. “White eyeliner opens up the eye, giving the appearance of bright, alert eyes,” says Lindsay. How to apply? To avoid looking ghostly, line only the inside corners along the bottom lash line for an open, wide-awake look.

2. Satin pillows

Lindsay states, “I tell my clients all the time, cotton is aging you!” What most celebrities seem to know that the un-famous are just figuring out is that quality pillowcases are worth the splurge. Why? Those tiny, sleep lines you see in the mirror when you wake up, eventually become deeper wrinkles. Satin and silk-blend fabrics don’t dent your face, adds Lindsay, “and they’re really great for your hair”. So unless you plan on sleeping on your back, it’s totally worth the money. Besides what’s pretty should be better for you.

3. Cranberry juice

Redheaded celebs take to rinsing their hair in this favorite juice to add extra shine and keep the color rich and lustrous.

4. Peppermint extract
Collagen injections? No thanks. It’s been reported that a few popular singers, prefer this trick to painful injections. “Peppermint extract is a natural plumper, because it dilates blood vessels.” Simply dab a bit on with your fingers and enjoy your youthful, plump pout.

5. Whiten teeth with strawberries
Ever wonder how celebrities maintain their gleaming smiles? A few A-list actresses have been known to smash up strawberries with baking soda (another natural whitening remedy, found in most toothpastes) and brush with the concoction at least a couple of times a week. Road Test Alert- I tried this, and I definitely thought my teeth looked brighter afterwards. The paste is a little thick, but try to think of it as a mask for your teeth.

6. Face spritzer
Another supermodel trick, one that is keeping a certain 80’s supermodel looking lovelier and lovelier as the years pass, is a mixture of water and whole milk in a spray bottle. This spray, when spritzed on regularly throughout the day, locks in skin’s moisture and keeps your complexion glowing.

7. Lemon Juice
Lemon juice is a natural cleanser and toner in one. This trick used by Hollywood stars and models, keeps skin fresh, clear and evenly balanced. Just like any expensive toner- it helps to shrink the size of pores and maintain an even complexion. Added bonus? Lindsay tell us,” Citric acid acts as an exfoliator.” Have sun spots? Lemon juice is proven to help diminish the look of those too. Apply it to cotton balls and sweep entirely over face as a major part of your cleansing routine. Real Lemon lemon juice ($3.86, for two, meijer.com)

8. Olive oil for waterproof mascara (and everything else)
Loaded with antioxidants A and E and non- clogging, olive oil is to beauty what sliced bread is for the sandwich. “It takes off even the hardest to remove eye makeup- and leaves your delicate under eye skin so baby smooth, smoother than your current eye cream,” states Lindsay. Road Test Alert- Curious to try it myself (hey, I like spilling a good secret!) I was stunned. After three days my under eye area looked hydrated, refreshed and my dark circles gone. Lindsay did tell me, “chronic dark circles are usually an issue of dry skin.” Immediately, I was obsessed and replaced my usual night eye cream with olive oil and have the softest skin I’ve ever had!

Buh Bye Sun Spots

In Beauty on May 17, 2011 at 11:26 am

I’ve recently become aware of the damage that years of sunbathing has taken on my skin. Little dark spots have started to appear on my cheekbones, and while they are generally unnoticeable, I started to nip this problem in the butt before it gets out of hand. I picked up Clinique’s award winning Even Better Clinical Dark Spot Corrector. For the last week I have been applying this serum twice a day and then putting my SPF daily lotion on top. I am very excited to start seeing these little dark spots on my cheeks fade away and the product claims that this will happen in 4 weeks! In clinical trials, it delivered results comparable to a leading prescription ingredient for a verified 53% improvement in skin tone.

As for now, it makes my skin feel super smooth and gives me hope for the future!
